At the nursery we find this provides proper aeration and drainage designed specifically for most cypripedium orchids.
As a VERY rough guide:-
0.5ltr = 450grm= 12cm pot
3ltr = 1850grm= 16cm pot

I bought this when I purchased a Cypripedium reginae in late April. Appears to be working well as orchid is already growing. Very gritty so good drainage.
